(English) Plaque devoted to Nazario Sauro (1880-1916) placed in Via dei Serpenti near Piazza Madonna dei Monti. Austro-hungarian citizen, was an italian irredentist. He joined the Regia Marina (Italian Navy) at otubreak of First World War. During an action was made prisoner by k.u.k. Kriegsmarine (Austro-Hungarian Navy), and later senteced to death for treason.
The plaque was erected 20th september 1918, before the end of the war. Very ruined, almost illegible, probably never restored since 1918. In 2011, 24 May (jubilee of Italy's entries in war, 15 May 2011), will start a restoring of this plaque.
The mentioned "Merciful campaign of Avezzano" is referred to an earthquake that affect the city of Avezzano in 1915.
At the bottom of the plaque is carved the bow of a roman warship. The ram bow was a symbol of naval victory (and naval power) since the ancient Rome, attested by the "Rostra" in the roman forum.

Cittadino austro-ungarico ed irredentista italiano, si arruolò nella Regia Marina allo scoppio della prima guerra mondiale. Durante un azione venne fatto prigionero dalla k.u.k. Kriegsmarine (Marina Austro-Ungarica), e successivamente condannato a morte per tradimento.
La lapide reca la data del 20 settembre 1918, prima della fine della guerra. Gravemente danneggiata dalle intemperie, quasi illeggibile e probabilmente mai restaurata.
Fortunatamente, il 24 maggio 2011 (anniversario dell'entrata in guerra, 15 maggio 1915), partirà una lavoro di restauro di questa lapide Omniroma - Restauro della Lapide di Via de Serpenti. E' citata la "Pietosa campagna di Avezzano", riferita al terremoto che colpì la città abruzzese nel 1915. In fondo alla stele è incisa la prua di una nave romana, il rostro simbolo di vittoria e potenza navale sin dai tempi dell'Antica Roma.
