(English) Monumental plaque devoted to the Fallen who served in sixth zone brigade of the Partito d’Azione during the Resistance in World War II. The plaque is placed in Viale Castrense, near Porta San Giovanni, on Aurelian Walls outer side. It’s next to the First World War Memorial to the Fallen from the boroughs of Appio, Latino e Tuscolano. The plaque, posed in March 1945, take up dimension, shape and placement, from the WWI plaque.
In the upper part of the monument is depicted the symbol of Giustizia e Libertà (Justice and Freedom) movement. Political moviment founded in Paris in 1929, by italian anti-fascist refugees. The Partito d’Azione (Action Party) was established in 1942 by representatives from Giustizia e Libertà, taken up the original name and the antimonarchical ideas of the party founded by Giuseppe Mazzini in 1853.
The symbol of Giustizia e Libertà is a black flaming gladius in a red field. In the monument the background is a red grain marble cut up in the form of a flame.
For the inscriptions are used letters in relief. Characteristic is the use the character “Λ” instead of “A”. This kind of font realize a monumental effect with a razionalist style. A style mitigated in the use of conventional “U”, instead of the “V” character, typical in commemorative plaques. Strange in the names on the right column is used the “V”.
The monument it’s well preserved. Only the “A” of Azione is gone, and two letters in the upper row has a small damage.
The plaques is still remembered, with a leaf galrand hanged at the bottom of the stone (not depicted in the photograph). The garland is placed at every Fosse Ardeatine mass execution commemoration (24 march).

Pilo Albertelli, Bruno Annarumi, Manlio Bordoni, Antonio Gallarello, Giorgio Giorgi, Pietro Lungaro and Felice Salemme were killed on 24th March 1943 in the Fosse Ardeatine mass execution.
Luigi Selva was killed while trying to escape, soon after his arrest on 20 January 1944.
About Benedetto Pitorri, Alessandro Portelli, in his L'Ordine è già stato eseguito: Roma, le fosse Ardeatine, la Memoria write that he was killed at Fosse Ardeatine, too. Pitorri worked in the clandestine newspaper Italia Libera and he was arrested the 19 november 1944 with the neswpaper director Leone Ginzburg. The name of Pitorri not appear in the list of the 322 identified victims of the massacre.

(Italiano) Targa monumentale dedicata ai caduti del Partito d’Azione della 6A zona durante la Resistenza. La lapide è posizionata su Viale Castrense, sul lato esterne delle Mura Aureliane, nelle vicinanze di Porta San Giovanni.
È accanto alla lapide in memoria dei Caduti nella prima guerra mondiale dei quartieri Appio, Latino e Tuscolano, riprendendone forma, installazione e dimensioni. Nella parte superiore è rappresentato il Gladio fiammengiante, simbolo del movimento Giustizia e Libertà, fondato nel 1929 a Parigi dagli antifascisti esuli in Francia. Proprio da esponenti di questo movimento, venne rifondato, nel 1942, il Partito d’Azione, creato originariamente nel 1853 da Giuseppe Mazzini. Riprendeva le idee repubblicane ed antimonarchiche, con spunti liberali e socialdemocratici.
Il gladio fiammeggiante nero è in genere rappresentato su sfondo rosso, sostituito in questa lapide dall’uso di un stele di marmo con venature rosse, tagliata anch’essa a mo di fiamma.
Particolare è l’uso di lettere in rilievo con l’uso del carattere “Λ” al posto della “A”. Lo stile dei carattere crea quindi un effetto monumentale, con echi razionalisti. Echi mitigati dall’uso della convenzionale “U”, al posto del carattere “V” tipico delle lapidi monumentali. È comunque da notare che i nomi della colonna sinistra presentano comunque le “U” in forma di “V”.
La stele, posizionata nel 1945, è complessivamente in buono stato, salvo la lettera A di Azione scomparsa ed alcune lettere danneggiate nella riga superiore. Il ricordo è comunque preservato, essendo la lapide tutt’ora omaggiata da una corona di foglie appesa al di sotto (non ritratta nell’immagine) posta ad ogni anniversario dell'eccidio delle Fosse Ardeatine.
È accanto alla lapide in memoria dei Caduti nella prima guerra mondiale dei quartieri Appio, Latino e Tuscolano, riprendendone forma, installazione e dimensioni.
